Healthy Homemade Fish Fingers Recipe | Katie Pix

This homemade fish finger recipe is delicious, healthy and cheap as chips (the Katie Pix way). Serve ’em up with some mushy peas, in a sandwich or go full-blown Doctor Who and dip them in custard… whichever way you plate it, this dish is a WINNER.

1 egg
85g wholemeal breadcrumbs (2 slices), made from 1 day-old bread
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp dried oregano
zest 1 lemon (the juice of which can be added to mayonnaise to jazz it up)
400g skinless sustainable white fish, sliced into 12 strips

Heat oven to 200°C (180°C fan assisted). Pour the beaten egg into a shallow dish. Tip the breadcrumbs onto a plate. Mix the lemon zest into the breadcrumbs along with the oregano, paprika and some salt and pepper (to taste).

Brush a nonstick baking sheet with half a tablespoon of oil. Dip the fish strips into the egg, then roll them in the breadcrumbs. Transfer to the baking sheet and bake for 20 mins until golden.

Squeeze some lemon into the mayonnaise – dip and enjoy!

  1. love it and definitely going to make this! do you think i could use gluten-free bread crumbs with the same result? i would love to see more gluten and dairy-free recipes.

  2. Those are super simple and super delicious Katie! The breadcrumb mixture is very similar to one we use for chicken and fish ourselves as well, but you added the lemon zest, which sounds very very intriguing!:) The best part is, that you baked those, instead of frying them, and you made your own breadcrumbs, which adds a lot of texture and flavor, doesn't it? It's like homemade panko:)
As for the condiment for this, we'll try them with skordalia, and we bet they'll taste amazing! If you never tried the skordalia dip before, please, PLEASE do! It's the perfect side for fish (especially if it's batter fried like you guys do in UK).
Thank you for another fantastic recipe Katie!

  3. These are some of my favorite things ever. I knew how to make em but I haven't in a while. WHY!? Also we say fi-LAY over in the states, instead of fillet. Why? I don't know, we're weird.

  4. Helllloooo Katie!!! I'm confused… today is not Tuesday! But I'm not complaining because there's a new Katie PIX vid, which means today is an awesome day 🙂 Fish fingers are brilliant! That crumbling sounds great. Do you have a good tartare sauce recipe to go with them?

Love the little dance at the end!! You make me happy ☺️👋
